Supporting Veterans into Fire & Security Careers
Honeywell, a long-standing partner of Skills for Security, is proud to welcome 8 exceptional veterans into the Honeywell Fire and Security Apprentice Training Programme.
These individuals bring a wealth of transferable skills from their military service – many of which are often overlooked – including problem-solving under pressure, strong communication, adaptability in fast-changing environments, and a deep commitment to safety and compliance.
Honeywell recently shared:
“Health and safety are foundational to everything we do – because protecting our people, our customers, and the communities we serve is not just a priority, it’s a responsibility that drives our innovation, operations, and culture. The commitment these colleagues show to health and safety enriches our training programme but also elevates the wider skills and behaviours of their peers – creating a stronger, more capable workforce.”
They went on to add:
“Our apprenticeship offers hands-on training in cutting-edge fire and security systems, expert mentorship and career guidance, nationally recognised qualifications, clear pathways to long-term career growth, as well as a supportive environment tailored for military-to-civilian transition. Honeywell is passionate about supporting veterans – whether they’re stepping into training roles or exploring opportunities across our global business.
Big welcome to Rianne, Glyn, Kyle, Karl, Nikesh, Lee, Michael, and Richard – our Fire & Security Apprentices.”
Skills for Security: Delivering Specialist Training Behind the Programme
As the UK’s leading fire and security training provider, Skills for Security is proud to be the specialist training partner delivering this programme alongside Honeywell.
Our mission goes beyond providing world-class apprenticeship training. We work to ensure employers like Honeywell can attract, develop, and retain the very best talent – especially individuals like military veterans, who bring unmatched resilience, discipline, and leadership into the industry.
By working closely with Honeywell, we have:
- Tailored the apprenticeship experience to align with Honeywell’s operational standards and culture
- Delivered expert-led sessions combining hands-on technical skills with industry best practice
- Supported veterans in their transition to civilian employment through pastoral support and progression planning
- Enabled access to real-world environments and advanced equipment, developing job-ready technicians
Through this partnership, we are not only developing Honeywell’s future workforce but also strengthening safety and expertise across the wider fire and security sector.
The Impact
Veterans entering this programme are already demonstrating leadership, discipline, and a safety-first mindset. With our structured apprenticeship framework and Honeywell’s supportive culture, they’re on track to become highly skilled fire and security professionals with strong, long-term career prospects.
We look forward to following their journey and continuing our collaboration with Honeywell to develop the next generation of industry leaders.
